About Anti Glare Films
Anti glare films and protective sheets are mainly used on display screens with glossy finishes. While some swear on nothing but glossy LCD displays, most people hate it for its reflective properties. To them, it is like looking directly to a mirror. This is particularly disturbing to those who seem to use their gadgets more outside—during the day, under direct sunlight.
Depending on where and when you use your gadget, an anti glare film might or might not be for you. However, either way, it also has other benefits that are usable for most—the sheets also add protection to the bare LCD display.
These films are simply nothing but thin sheets of transparent plastic that are laid over a screen. They have a dull (non-smooth) finish that does not reduce the quality of graphics. If you are keen to notice, most computer screens already have dull finishes to begin with—look at a couple of monitors when turned off and for sure you will see some that are glossy and some that are dull.
Glare is caused by the reflection of light on the surface of the screen. Normally, if you want to get rid of the glare, you simply reposition the screen so that the light source is directly behind you. However, if such is not possible—for mobile gadgets that are often used during the day of for a permanent computer workstation, anti glare films are your best bet.
Films can easily be applied in minutes but extra care is needed. To apply the protector, clean the surface of the gadget with a proper cleaner and the softest microfiber cloth available at your disposal. Devices’ screens are made from different materials—e.g. glass, plastic—so ask around and research what kind of cleaner goes well with your screen.
Make sure there are absolutely no debris or cloth strands left of your screen. Even the smallest debris can create air bubbles and can be seen when the film is applied. Peel the film from its backing and apply it on the screen making sure everything is even and straight. Start from the topmost side portion of the screen and smooth the film slowly against the screen until you reach the bottommost end and opposite side. If no bubbles are visible, gently massage the whole screen area with the smoothing tool that came with the film (usually the backing peel). If bubbles are visible, carefully remove the film and reapply until no bubbles are visible.
